We recently had a conversation with Janika Rüger, Global HR Business Partner at 1NCE and asked her about their journey into global hiring, working with an Employer of Record (EOR) solution and how this has benefitted their company.
Read the interview below and discover how 1NCE accelerated their global expansion with WorkMotion’s help.
Who is 1NCE and what do they specialise in?
1NCE is a global provider of IoT connectivity and software. We are the only provider that offers a global flat rate. Our growth over the past two years has been exponential and we have gone from 120 to 450 employees.
What were some of the challenges you faced when hiring internationally?
We always wanted to grow, but initially we were only looking at local markets. We already had three legal entities when I joined the business. One is in Germany, one is in Latvia and the other one in the US. So if you are on the lookout for people for niche roles or tech related roles, then you're limiting yourself to a very talented pool in those three markets predominantly.
We had a growth plan of up to 150 roles to be hired in one year. So it's very difficult if you just look at three local markets and find the right people in those markets. So we knew we needed to get talent from across the borders globally. That's how we got into the EOR game.

What convinced you that WorkMotion was the right partner for your global hiring needs?
We were already using an EOR provider, but we were looking for better communication and involvement. While our previous provider was reliable, we felt there was a lack of transparency. We wanted to explore other options to see if there was a better fit.
"We contacted several EOR providers and found that WorkMotion stood out. Right from the initial sales call, the team was friendly, approachable, and understanding of our specific needs. The platform was a game-changer, providing real-time updates on the hiring process. This level of visibility and involvement was something we missed with our previous provider."
Onboarding new employees, both from our previous EOR and new hires, was a smooth process. The WorkMotion team was supportive and proactive, ensuring a seamless transition.
What kind of impact did WorkMotion have on your business?
"When it comes to internal communication, I appreciate the constant updates we receive from WorkMotion. I can always track the progress of each candidate, from initial onboarding to contract signing. This allows me to keep our higher management informed about the status of each hire. This was something we didn’t have with our previous provider, and we weren’t always aware of what they were working on in the background."
Second, the platform is also incredibly helpful. It provides real-time updates, so I'm always in the loop. I can see how long it takes to set up a contract in different entities, and I'm impressed by the efficiency of the process.
Third, the onboarding process is smooth and efficient. The team is proactive in reaching out to candidates to gather missing information. If there are any issues, they escalate them to me promptly. This has significantly sped up our hiring process.

Did you save costs by moving to WorkMotion?
Absolutely. There's a flat fee, and the more employees we onboard, the lower the monthly fee.
"We were able to save a significant amount by onboarding 20 employees in the first six months without any setup fees. This, along with the reduced monthly running costs, has been a huge cost-saver for us. We're talking about thousands of euros saved each month."
By hiring remotely, you can fill vacancies faster, reduce hiring costs, and access a diverse range of skills and perspectives.
Why would you recommend other companies to think about hiring remote talent abroad?
Recruiting talent has become increasingly challenging, especially in today’s remote-first work environment. Many companies are struggling to find the right people in their local markets.
So why limit your search to a specific location when you can find top talent globally? By expanding your search, you can access a wider pool of skilled professionals and potentially save on costs. For tech roles, in particular, there are many talented individuals in other countries who can work remotely.

How can HR professionals convince management to adopt an EOR solution?
Saving costs is a significant advantage of using an EOR. If you're struggling to find the right talent locally, expanding your search globally can be a game-changer. By utilising an EOR, you can quickly hire skilled professionals from around the world without the need for complex legal and administrative processes.
"Additionally, EORs provide valuable HR and legal support. For instance, we faced that when we were dealing with complex employment laws in Japan. In those cases, an EOR can handle contract drafting and ongoing employee relations. This saves time, reduces costs, and ensures compliance."
Overall, an EOR can be a cost-effective and efficient solution for businesses looking to expand globally. It can help you attract top talent, streamline your hiring process, and ensure compliance with local labour laws.
