We’re excited and proud to announce that our founders, Carsten Lebtig and Felix Steffens, were featured in a recent video interview with Handelsblatt, a leading German business newspaper. The interview is part of Handelsblatt’s ongoing video series exploring the opportunities presented by Economy 4.0, the fourth industrial revolution.

In the interview, Carsten and Felix discuss how WorkMotion empowers companies to access and onboard global talent, overcoming geographical limitations in the pursuit of skilled employees. WorkMotion’s innovative platform simplifies international hiring processes, allowing companies to tap into a wider talent pool and bolster their workforce with qualified individuals regardless of location.

Key takeaways from the interview:

The talent shortage is a major obstacle to growth in Economy 4.0. Businesses across industries are struggling to find the skilled workers they need to thrive in the digital age.

Traditional hiring methods are no longer sufficient. In an increasingly globalised economy, companies need to adopt flexible and efficient strategies to access top talent worldwide.

The younger generation today expects more from their place of work. Flexible work is one of the top criteria that they look for, and modern companies need to adapt and offer that to talent today to attract and hire the best employees.

A major breakthrough in the world of HR is hiring through an Employer of Record (EOR). An EOR takes away the hassles of hiring abroad and makes forming global teams super easy. WorkMotion has now helped over 1000 companies expand their teams around the world.

In Felix’s words

In the video, Felix is quoted as saying, “The expectations of the younger generation are quite simple. It's about flexibility, flexible working hours, but above all, flexibility regarding the workplace and work location. Many skilled workers want to stay where they live. Secondly, many people who moved for their job a few years ago now want to return home, to be close to their family. This means people are willing to move abroad again.

Employers need to think more globally. It’s not just about how to bring skilled workers from abroad to Germany, but how to bring the work to the skilled workers abroad.”

Remote work is no longer a crazy idea or a concept for young startups. There are billion-dollar companies, listed on the stock exchange, that are remote-first. It starts with the basics, like speaking a common language, which in a remote context is usually English. Managers have specific tasks. Companies must set a clear vision, have clear short-term goals, and motivate employees accordingly. The mindset is also crucial. In a remote setup, you need to focus on the results, the output, not the working hours or input. This mindset especially needs to be present in the management tier.
